World of Warcraft has been through many changes in the 14 years it’s been around. It still holds the title as the most popular MMO (Massively multiplayer online) game ever, or currently. Though the game doesn’t enjoy nearly as many subscribers as it did at the height of its popularity, it’s still a quite popular game and is easily the most recognizable MMO and the one with the most current subscribers. Well over 100 million accounts for the World of Warcraft have been made during the course of the game’s life time. Generally, a new expansion set for the game release every few years, the Burning Crusade, Wrath of the Lich King, Cataclysm, Mists of Pandaria, Warlords of Draenor and the most recent expansion Legion. For the most part the World of Warcraft expansions have been received quite well, though since Wrath of the Lich King the game has been losing subscribers by the thousands.
Though World of Warcraft subscriptions declining is the result of many things, in particular it is due to a few causes. First, it’s an older game, World of Warcraft is pushing a 13-year life span. The loss of subscribers is also due to the game’s community getting older, and moving on with their lives or moving on to other games, and lastly some players have gotten frustrated during different stages of past expansions and moved on entirely.
Millions of WoW players
World of Warcraft launched in what is now known as “Vanilla Wow” in November of 2004. The game has been around for roughly 12 years, with millions of subscribers! The life span of the game is enough for children to have gone through school, young adults to have gotten married and raised families, people started and retired from jobs, a lot of time has passed! Due to this a lot of players have just moved on from having the World of Warcraft in their lives, due to becoming busy, going to school, starting a new job etc. Life happens, and a lot of the time there is no place for the World of Warcraft in different people’s lives as they move onto to different stages of their lives.
